The terrain of the land is indicated both with elevation contours and shaded relief. Shows cities and towns, oases, roads of all classes, railways, shipping routes, salt lakes and marshes, wadis, wells, sand desert, stony desert and lava fields, forests, scenic viewpoints, resorts, filling stations, mosques, ruins and much more. Distances along roads are shown in kilometers. (See sample at right.) When major cities have English names which differ from the Arabic transliteration, both are shown on the map.Insets show the central areas and main streets of Dimashq (Damascus), Halab (Aleppo), and Bayrut (Beirut). Another inset shows both countries emphasizing provincial boundaries. The legend explains symbols in English, German, French, and Hungarian.
