USGS Geology of the Solar System This colorful chart is arranged exactly like Mapping the Solar System below, but instead of showing natural color, it shows each type of rock in different colors, as is the practice in earthbound geological maps. The reverse side gives abundant details, photographs and references.
Notice how in the image, the smaller planets such as Venus at lower left, are shown three times, each giving a view of a different portion of the planet.

USGS Mapping the Solar System " To commemorate completion of the first reconnaissance mapping of the solar system." The image at right shows the whole poster, at less than ideal exposure—but you get the idea. The planets are shown in in true relative size, along with their moons (which are usually enlarged relative to the planets). Each are drawn with as much detail as is available from recent NASA flyby missions, an impressive amount of detail in most cases.
The reverse side gives much additional detail. The sample shown at right shows you Mercury and Venus, with a bit of the Earth in the corner. Because of the thick cloud cover on Venus, the image you see is based on radar scans of the surface.
Size: About 27 x 33 inches. Rolled. Paper.

National Geographic Mars RevealedBased on a mosaic of about 1000 images taken by the Mars Orbiter Camera since 1999, the red planet is here mapped in sharp detail. It shows, among other things, ancient canyons believed to have been carved by flowing water at some remote time, and the current ice caps. (See image at left.)
The reverse side is more of an educational poster, with multiple images and diagrams depicting aspects of the geography of Mars, accompanied by text which explains the features. (Image at right).Size: about 31 x 20 inches. Rolled. Paper.
