Rite in the Rain brand products are made with truly water resistant paper designed to shed water. They withstand rain and submersion, as well as humidity. Those who live in hot dry climates may not have to worry about rain, but if you've ever had your notes made illegible by sweat, use one of these instead!
All notebooks and journals on this page have bright yellow covers, which make it easier for you to locate where you left them—and make it less likely you’ll leave them sitting on a rock somewhere. But if you do lose one, you’ll be more likely to get it back should some kind person happen to find it (if, of course, you have written your name and address inside!)—and no matter what weather it's been through, it will still be legible so long as you’ve used a pencil or a waterproof-inked pen.

All-Weather Birder’s Journal
About 32 sets of unnumbered pages feature a bordered blank photo or sketch page on one side, and lined pages on the facing side. The sketch page has a line for the bird’s common and Latin names, and the lined pages for recording notes are headed by Date, Time, Weather, and Location. On the inside are diagrams showing anatomical terms for a typical perching bird and a shore bird. Coat-pocket sized horizontal-lined notebook contains 50 sheets (100 pages) of horizontal lined paper. The horizontal lines are gridded with faint vertical dashed lines which enable each sheet to double as graph paper, without intruding on its main function as note paper. Cordura Belt Pouch (for 4 x 6 inch notebooks)Not enough pockets? Or pockets in an inconvenient location? This pouch has belt loops so you can keep your notebook and pens at one convenient location, strapped to your belt. There are two internal pockets each big enough for a 4 x 6 inch notebook. (In fact, you could squeeze four of them in there, if you didn't need to carry anything else.) The outer pocket has internal loops for holding pens, pencils, and/or a 6-inch ruler. Or you could use the outer pocket to hold your compass, tape measure, or clinometer.
Because it is a little bigger than 4 x 6 inches, the Birder's Journal will not fit inside this pouch. The bound books such as the Adventure Travel Journal fit, but a little too snugly for easy access. The 4 x 6 inch dimensions really are the maximum size for the best use of this pouch.

All-Weather Pen, Chrome TopThe value of your All-Weather notebooks and journals is limited if your ink smears when damp. This pen gives you waterproof ink and more. Because it uses technology developed for use in space, it is also referred to as a "space pen." The ink cartridge is pressurized and will write at any angle. The All-Weather pen has a patented ball point with a beveled ball socket rim; it is stronger, less easily damaged and writes more smoothly at a lower angle.
The manufacturer asserts it "will work in the freezing cold, boiling heat, and gravity-free void of Outer Space." Specifically, it is designed to work in cold to -50 degrees F and up to +400 degrees F (I don't recommend you try the latter—kids, don't try this at home!). It also writes underwater.
The ink is permanent, containing pigments as well as dyes, and "will not dry out in 100 years because it is in a sealed cartridge."
These pens have a shiny chrome-like top and colored plastic end. This makes the pen more visible if you misplace it.

All-Weather Pen, Flat Black Metal, Black InkThis pen has the same attributes as the ones described above, with one important difference: Instead of the shiny chrome/plastic case, it has an all-metal dull black case. This makes it more suitable for taking notes while wildlife viewing, since light reflecting on a shiny case could alert a bird or mammal to your presence. Similarly, for military or police tactical work, you don't usually want to call attention to your position, and this version is admirably suited. Even the pocket clip is the same dull color.
This pen uses the same kind of refills as the chrome top version, which are described below.
