In this region, the Forest Service is responsible for most of the area, and these are depicted in light green, with wilderness areas in darker green. BLM stewardship is indicated by a yellow tint, and private lands are untinted; there is also a small state park and Indian Reservation in the area, distinguished by drak blue and by orange tints, respectively. Shows lakes, rivers, streams, creeks, and springs. Township and section lines are marked. Roads of all classes are depicted (but only state highways are numbered). Shows major power lines, mines, corrals, and gaging stations; landing strips, campgrounds and more. (See sample below.)

Tonto National Forest covers the largest part of the region, but portions of Prescott National Forest, Coconino National Forest, and Sitgreaves National Forest are also included. All of Pine Mountain Wilderness, Cedar Bench Wilderness, Fossil Springs Wilderness, and Hellsgate Wilderness and most of Mazatzal Wilderness are within the area and marked. State highway 87 curves through the middle of the map, state 260 branches off through the middle of the right side, and a section of state 188 is also included. The largest area is within Gila County, followed by Yavapai, Coconino, and Maricopa counties, in that order.
Major physical features include Black Hills, Verde River, Fossil Creek, Hardscrabble Creek, Mogollon Rim, East Verde River, Tonto Creek, Spring Creek, Cooks Mesa, Bloody Basin, Mazatzal Mountains, and the northern portion of Horseshoe Reservoir.
