Trail & Recreation Maps
National Geographic / Trails Illustrated, Adirondack Park: Lake George / Great Sacandaga Topographic Map The Adirondack Park maps are some of the newest in the Trails Illustrated series of maps, with five of them recently published for the region. This one is printed on two sides and covers the southeast section of the area (consisting of private and public lands administered by the State of New York). One side shows the section dominated by Lake George, and which also contains Paradox Lake, Schroon Lake, Brant Lake, and a portion of Lake Champlain along the New York - Vermont border. Also included are large parts of Dix Mountain Wilderness, Hammond Pond Wild Forest, and Hoffman Notch Wilderness, and all of Pharaoh Lake Wilderness and Lake George Wild Forest. The reverse side continues overlapping coverage to the southwest, an area dominated by Great Sacandaga Lake. This section also contains most of Wilcox Lake Wild Forest and Moreau Lake State Park.
The maps feature elevation contours enhanced with shaded relief to show the form of the land (and depth contours for Lake George). Roads of all kinds are clearly distinguished, with exit numbers shown for Interstate 87 which runs through the park. US and state highways are numbered, as are also county roads. Named local roads are also labeled. A color tint shows the extent of private property within Adirondack Park. Recreational features located include information and ranger stations, restrooms, showers, campgrounds, picnic areas, lean-tos, lodges, scenic viewpoints, points of interest, parking areas, interpretive trails, swimming, fishing, ice climbing, rock climbing, cross country skiing, lookout towers, canoe access, boat launches, lighthouses, marinas, and more.
The map was created in partnership with the Adirondack Mountain Club (AMC), and the trails on the map are keyed to the clubs trail guidebooks. Point-to-point trail distances are shown to the nearest tenth of a mile. Text boxes describe safe use of the area, rules and regulations, and the activities of the AMC. The map shows the full UTM grid for GPS users.
Scale, about 1:75,000 (1 inch = about 1.18 miles). Contour interval: 50 feet. Size: about 25½ x 37½ inches. Folded. Plastic.

National Geographic / Trails Illustrated, Adirondack Park: Lake Placid / High Peaks Topographic MapThe Lake Placid / High Peaks region map is printed on two sides and covers the central and northeast section of the area (consisting of private and public lands administered by the State of New York). Also included are all of High Peaks Wilderness, large parts of Dix Mountain Wilderness, Blue Mountain Wild Forest, and Hoffman Notch Wilderness.
The reverse side continues overlapping coverage to the northeast, an area dominated by a large portion of Lake Champlain along the border with Vermont. This section also contains Jay Mountain Wilderness, Hurricane Mountain Primitive Area, Giant Mountain Wilderness, the rest of Dix Mountain Wilderness, and Lincoln Pond.
