This topographic map, printed on two sides, covers the National Forest and adjacent lands extending from near Asheville east to Morganton. On one side, the map covers the west side of this region, with Spivey Gap and a few miles of the Appalachian Trail in the upper left corner, the town of Black Mountain in the lower left, and Gillepsie Gap (and the Museum of North Carolna Minerals at middle right. In between, the Blue Ridge Parkway runs across the center, with Mount Mitchell and the State Park of the same name just below center. Important roads depicted included Interstate 40, US 19 and 19W, state 80, US 70, and state 226.On the reverse side, coverage continues eastward, and includes Grandfather Mountain at the top, Lake James and the town of Marion at lower left, Morgantown at lower right, more of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Linville Gorge at left of center.
