Colorado, New Mexico, west Texas, & southern Wyoming Regional Raised Relief Maps

These vinyl raised relief maps measure about 32 inches wide by 21 inches high. The scale is 1:250,000, which is approximately four miles to the inch. The topography has two to one vertical exageration—which means the mountains are represented as twice as high proportionally as they are in real life. All include topographic contours at 200 foot intervals (except where noted otherwise). They are quite detailed and show such features as roads, railroads, airports and landing strips, county boundaries, woodlands, mines, orchards, oil wells, water features and more. Each covers two degrees of longitude wide, one degree high. You can buy adjacent maps and make a striking mosaic of them to cover just the regions you are interested in most.
Click here for an index to regional raised relief maps stocked. This will show you which maps are adjacent.
They are based on the latest USGS maps—and as such, they are quite dated (note dates in descriptions below). You buy these for the topography, not for current roads and park boundaries! All are published by Hubbard Scientific.
If having one of these maps sent to Alaska or Hawai'i, please read shipping page before ordering!
Suggested retail price is $28.50. Your price: $25.65

Durango, Colorado
The San Juan Mountains are the most important topographical feature in this region of southwestern Colorado. The title town of Durango is near the lower left corner; San Luis Valley is partially shown on the right side. The map also includes the towns of Pagosa Springs, Monte Vista, Del Norte, Center, Antonito, and many smaller communities. Besides the San Juans, the map shows the Garita Mountains, parts of the Animas River, and the headwaters of the Rio Grande.
While none of the maps in this series is up-to-date, this one is particularly dated, at over 50 years old. (Newer versions are not available.) An annoying feature of this map (if you choose to be annoyed by such things) is that it was compiled before complete records for forest cover were mapped. Sections of the map which are certainly forested omit the green tint which represents woodlands, and the result is that it looks like the forests end or suddenly begin at strict north-south and east-west lines. These undoubtedly follow the borders of the larger scale 15-minute quads from which the base map was compiled. (No, this map is the best made of its kind, there are no improved alternatives available.)
Bordered by latitudes 37 and 38 degrees, longitudes 106 and 108 degrees. Published 1953.

Pueblo, Colorado
This map is centered on the Canon City area, and is baout half mountainous, half plains. Unlike most of the other regional maps in this series, this map uses the metric system for elevations. It has a contour interval of 100 meters—and the map's own legend which states that it has a contour interval of 200 feet is in error. The map is also more recent than most other maps in this series. It would seem that the US Geological Survey (which made the base maps that Hubbard Scientific copies and molds) was experimenting in their revision of this quadrangle, for not only are the metric elevations unusual for this series, the typeface used for place names is also significantly different, and minor roads are drawn much more prominently.
The region is bounded by latitudes 29 and 38 degrees, and longitudes 106 and 104 degrees. Published 1989.
