Excellent two-sided publication with a detailed topographic map of the whole park on one side (see top right for sample), and more diagrammatic maps of Carlsbad Cavern and Slaughter Canyon Cave on the reverse (see sample at lower right).  The topo map side shows trails in the 46,753-acre park, and significant sections of adjacent Lincoln National Forest.  The form of the terrain is not only detailed with topographic contours, but is also  emphasized with shaded relief in this new edition.

Carson National Forest

National Geographic/Trails Illustrated Taos, Carson National Forest
Two-sided topographic contour map.  One side shows the north half of this region east and southeast of the town of Taos, including US Highway 64, and west of State Highway 434.  The reverse side shows the south half of the region bisected by State Highway 518.  Note that the area covered is only a fraction of the entire Carson National Forest—perhaps 25%.  This allows for a larger scale (more detail) of the area they do cover.

The publication also includes basic information on backcountry conduct, with special reference to bicycle use; and a basic summary of routes keyed to the map.

Gila National Forest

Forest Service Gila National Forest
Standard National Forest map printed on two sides.  Shows land administration, section lines, roads, trails, recreational sites, landmark structures (cabins, windmills, power lines), and more.  (See sample at right.)  It does not show topographic contours.  Unlike most other Forest Service maps we sell, an attempt has been made to use shading to show the form of the mountains and hills—with limited success.

On one side is the north part of the region, including the New Mexico portions of Apache National Forest and Blue Range Wilderness within Gila National Forest.  On the reverse is the southern portion, which is dominated by Gila and Aldo Leopold wildernesses north of Silver City.  The maps are complemented by many paragraphs of text which describe the region, regulations, and activities.  There are also several full color photos which whet your appetite for some of the places to be seen.  A chart describes recreational sites, their seasons of use, and available facilities and activities.
