Nevada Maps & Atlases
DeLorme Nevada Atlas & GazetteerThe topography really stands out in this latest edition of Delorme's detailed Nevada atlas, and the other features, such as roads and boundaries of counties and parks, are also very clearly portrayed. Shows roads of all sizes, compiled from USGS maps, including some of the roughest dirt roads. The 57 pages of maps also depict: attractions, campgrounds, casinos, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, fishing, golf courses, hiking, historic sites, hunting, national lands, scenic drives, state parks & recreation areas, unique natural features, and areas especially good for wildlife viewing. The gazetteer briefly describes these places and activities. The book also includes grids and tick marks for GPS users.
The scale of each map is 1:250,000 (1"= about 4 miles) and the contour interval is 200 feet.
DeLorme, 2006 (Fifth Edition). 72 pages, 11 x 15½ inches; paperback book. New.

Benchmark Nevada Road & Recreation AtlasThe bulk of this atlas is divided into two main sections: Recreation and Landscape. The Recreation section features the state depicted on eight sectional maps which show land management (BLM, Forest Service, Wilderness, State Parks, Tribal Lands, Military bases, etc.), hunting units, major roads (with point-to-point mileages), local roads, and recreational points of interest. Topography is depicted with extraordinarily detailed shaded relief. Each sectional map is on one page, with a recreation guide on the facing page. The latter gives details about each location, including contact information. Climate charts showing monthly average temperatures and precipitation of selected cities and towns are also on the recreation guide pages.
The Landscape section features 57 detailed shaded sectional shaded relief maps also covering the entire state. These are larger scale, and thus more detailed than those in the Recreation section (even showing craters from nuclear test explosions on the Nellis Bombing Range) . They include latitude/longitude grids for GPS users at 10' intervals. The other difference is that the maps are tinted according to elevation rather than land ownership, and that even minor dirt roads are shown. The publishers have generously included some adjacent areas outside the state, including all of Owens Valley and Death Valley in California.
Additionally, there is a more detailed landscape map of the Lake Tahoe area (this map shows the underwater topography of Lake Tahoe, too!), and detail maps of the Reno and Las Vegas areas showing major streets. Finally, the atlas also includes double-page spreads of the United States (except Alaska and Hawai’i, and showing major highways only), the far west, and of Nevada itself. These maps also portray the topography in color-tinted shaded relief.
Scale of Landscape maps, 1:280,000 (1 inch = about 4.4 miles); scale of Recreation maps, 1:850,000 (1 inch = about 13.4 miles).
Published by Benchmark Maps, 2007 (second edition). 95 pages. About 11 x 15½ inches. Paperback. New.

Northwest Distributors Nevada Ghost Towns/Sites: Then and Now Set of six folded historic maps of the state, four of which include transparent overlays of current maps that readily enable you to see which towns and roads no longer exist. Map 1, side 1 is a reproduction of an 1882 Nevada map. (See sample at right.) On the reverse is a modern map of the state, amended to emphasize ghost town sites and the shifting territorial boundaries. It also dates some of the ghost towns.
Map 2, side 1 reproduces a Nevada map from 1900. Side 2 lists several hundred Nevada settlements, past and present, and their populations in 1900, 1950, and 2000 (if known).
Maps 3-6 divide the state into quarters and show a part of an 1881 state map on one side (this looks identical to the 1882 map shown on Map 1, perhaps a typo?) with a transparent overlay of a modern topographic map attached. The overlay map is printed in red for less interference with reading the black-printed 1881 map. On the reverse side of each is a description of some of the towns and other localities on the map, including boom and bust dates of mining towns.
Size, maps 1 and 2: about 17 x 22 inches; maps 3 to 6: 8½ x 11 inches. Folded. Paper, with clear plastic overlays. Come in paper envelope for storage.

National Geographic Las Vegas DestinationMap Durable laminated tourist map and guide printed on two sides. On one side is a detailed street map of that portion of Vegas most of interest to visitors. It ranges from the downtown section south to The Strip and the airport, including the Winchester neighborhood. The many landmark buildings along or near The Strip are depicted in miniature isometric detail. Other important buildings are also clearly marked. The street names are easier to read than on more extensive city street maps. Also detailed are parks, information centers, parking, post offices, police stations, hospitals, points of interest, theaters, hotels, and more. An index helps you locate the features on the map.The reverse side is packed with visitor information and several small maps. One shows the main roads and recreation areas of the entire region, with an inset showing access roads from adjacent states; another shows a detailed street map of the downtown area; three others show nearby Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks; and another detail shows the layout of McCarran International Airport. Addresses and phone numbers for additional information are provided.
Scale, 1:21,000 (1 inch = about 1/3 mile). Size: about 18 x 24½ inches. Folded. Laminated.

Rand McNally Las Vegas, Nevada, Local Street Detail Comprehensive street map printed on two sides. This map is for residents, business people, and other persons who want to get around the major part of the city not associated with casinos and night clubs (most of the gambling and entertainment spots—I'm surprised to learn from this map—are not even within the city limits!). Also shows North Las Vegas (part of this area is depicted separately, on the reverse side), and unincorporated areas as far south as McCarran International Airport. The map does not cover some of the outer residential streets. Insets show Central Las Vegas in more detail, and a regional map showing the major streets of the area. A comprehensive index enables you to find the thousands of streets on the main map. As with most street maps of large cities, the print is very small (except for major streets) and requires sharp eyes or a magnifier to read. As is true with other recent Rand McNally street maps, some of the streets mapped are not labelled, perhaps as many as 5%.
Scale, about 1:34,848 (1 inch = about 0.55 mile). Size: about 28 x 40 inches. Folded. Paper.
