Trails Illustrated Pine Ridge (Northwest Nebraska) Trails: Nebraska National Forest, Ft. Robinson & Chadron State Parks Topographic contour map printed on two sides emphasizing mountain bike routes. One side shows the east side of the Pine Ridge Ranger District of Nebraska National Forest, including Pine Ridge National Recreation Area. This section surrounds Chadron State Park. The reverse continues coverage to the west (leaving out a portion of the National Forest lands south of Ponderosa State Wildlife Area), with the National Forest’s Soldier Creek Wilderness area at left. Also shows all of Fort Robinson State Park and the town of Crawford. About as much private as public land is shown on both sides, at equivalent detail.Since the maps are based on USGS maps considerably reduced in size, the print for elevations, and names of water and other geographical features will be difficult to read for those with older or otherwise less acute eyes. Names of major roads, trails, and visitor facilities have, on the other hand, been given in more legible print. A brown tint clearly shows the extent of private lands both inside and outside the Forest; a green tint shows the extent of woodlands. Trails recommended for mountain bikes are boldly depicted in color-coded dashes, rated according to difficulty. Also shows trails not available to bicyclists, so this map is of value to hikers and equestrians, too.
An inset shows the region in relation to the major road systems of Nebraska, Kansas, and adjacent states. Supplementary text describes the area and how to treat it with respect.
Scale, 1:53,333 (1 inch = about 0.84 mile). Contour interval: 20 feet. Size: about 25 x 18½ inches. Folded. Plastic.
