Superior National Forest
Forest Service, Superior National Forest Recreation Map
Large, detailed, official map printed on two sides. Superior National Forest is found in the northeast corner of the state, and contains hundreds of lakes and borders Lake Superior. One side shows the west part of the region, the reverse the east. The map plots primary and secondary highways, light duty and unimproved roads, trails, railroads, and powerlines, and distinguishes with color tints National Forest Land, Wilderness Areas, other Federal Land, State Land, State Parks, County Lands, Indian Reservations, Bureau of Land Management, and Canadian Land.Other features located are mining activity, buildings, schools and churches, cemeteries, springs, wells, heliports, gates, customs posts, Forest Service administrative sites, campgrounds, back country campsites, picnic areas, parking, fishing piers, boat launching sites (ramps or carry downs distinguished), points of interest, archaeological / historic sites, downhill ski areas, cross country ski trails, snowmobile trails, hiking trails, horseback trails, hunter walking trails, trail shelters, and more. Roads and trails include Forest Service or other numbering.
The map does not stop at the National Forest borders, but also includes adjacent private and other lands. The region itself also includes numerous Minnesota State Parks, and these are shown: Tettegouche, George H. Crosby Manitou, Cross River Scenic, Temperance River, Ray Berglund, Cascade River, Judge C.R. Magney, McCarthy Beach, Tower Soudan, and Bear Head Lake state parks.
In the marginal areas, supplementary text describes the region, regulations, safety, and recreational opportunities. The map is lightly gridded with the boundaries of the USGS topo quads you might want to refer to for extra detail, and an index for each side of the map names the quads.
