Cape Cod National Seashore

Excellent new revision of this topographic map, now featuring shaded relief which makes the hills more readily visible.  Printed on two sides, one side shows the Cape from near Orleans north; the reverse overlaps the north side map, and shows the Cape from Eastham south, and west to Yarmouth.  Thus, a considerable amount of land not within the boundaries of the National Seashore is also mapped, and at great detail at that.  Even streets in residential areas are depicted, though only major throughfares are labeled.  Besides the National Seashore, the map shows Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, Nickerson State Park, and Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuary.

Detailed on the map are topographic contours, trails, public and private campgrounds, restrooms, picnic areas, museums, lighthouses, showers, visitor centers, and much more.  A trail guide describes 14 trails which are keyed to the map.  Other text gives information on park regulations, recreational opportunities, safety, and the evolution of Cape Cod.  The latter feature, a surprisingly detailed section by geologist Robert N. Oldale, is accompanied by three figures which show the extent of the Laurentide Ice Sheet 25,000 years ago, the associated features of the Cape, and a small bathymetric contour map of the region showing ocean depths.
