Pathfinder Maps, British Columbia Tourist Map
Clear basic road map printed on two sides.  The southern half of the province is on one side, the north on the reverse.  The province is color-coded into nine regions, and these colors correspond to the colors used on an extensive chart listing parks and facilities.  Another chart enables you to calculate the distances between 54 important cities within the province or across the border in Washington, Alberta, or Yukon.  Three inset maps show details for parts of Vancouver Island and the metro Vancouver region.

Place names are indexed on the map.  Unfortunately, no distances along roadways are indicated, and no scale is provided.  I calculated the scale given below based on comparing known like distances on other maps.

Scale, not stated, but about 1:1,584,000 (1 inch = 25 miles).  Size: about 39 x 26½ inches.  Folded.  Paper.
Published by Pathfinder Maps, Canada, 2001.  New.
Item #PF-BC.  Shipping weight: 0.2 lb.  Suggested retail price: $3.95.  Your price: $3.55 (out of stock, we probably will not re-order this)

For a map of Chilkoot Trail National Historic Park in northwestern British Columbia, see this page.

MapArt Vancouver street map
Detailed street maps printed on two sides, covers all of the city of Vancouver in British Columbia and adjacent cities and towns.  One side is dominated by the city map of Vancouver itself, plus North Vancouver, New Westminster, the north side of Richmond, and parts of Coquitlam, Port Moody, and Surrey.   An inset shows an enlargement of Downtown Vancouver; another inset shows the streets of Horseshoe Bay and Lions Bay, while yet another inset shows the Trans Link mass transit plan.

The reverse side continues coverage southward, and shows a same-scale street map of the rest of Richmond, more of Surrey, all of Ladner, and all of Tsawwassen on the Canada-US boundary.   The remainder of the reverse is devoted to the comprehensive street index.

The street maps clearly distinguish local roads from throughfares, these from major highways.  They do not clearly distinguish the borders of each city, so if knowing exactly where, for example, Burnaby borders New Westminster, you'll have to look pretty closely to spot the boundary lines.

The maps also show railways, the Skytrain and its stations, highway exit numbers, parking, beaches, boat eaunches, marinas, ferries, parks, golf courses, cemeteries, shopping centres, schools, and much more.

Scale of main maps, 1:31,250 (1 inch = about 0.5 mile).  Size: about 39¼ x 27 inches.  Folded.  Paper.

MapArt Victoria; Saanich Peninsula, Colwood, Sooke street map
Excellent, easy-to-read street maps printed on two sides show the southeastern developed tip of Vancouver Island at great detail.  One side shows a regional road map orienting you to the area covered by the four street maps; on the same side is Map 1 which shows the towns of Sooke, Rocky Point, Metchosin, Colwood, and Langford.  On the reverse is Map 2 which shows Victoria, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Royal Oak, Cordova Bay, Keating, Brentwood Bay, and Saanichton.  Map 3 on the same side shows North Saanich, Sidney, Swartz Bay, and Deep Cove.  Map 4—smaller than the rest, so we'll call it an "inset"—shows downtown Victoria in great detail.

The maps clearly distinguish local streets, larger roads, highways, expressways and other classes of roadways.  Also shows railways, at least one long walking trail (called Galloping Goose Regional Trail—the name sparks my interest!), parks, universities, shopping centers, schools, hospitals, post offices, and more.  A comprehensive index helps you find streets on the map.

Scale of maps 1-3, 1:25,000 (1 inch = about 0.4 mile); scale of map 4, 1:7,500 (1 inch = about 0.12 mile).  Size: about 27 x 39½ inches.  Folded.  Paper.

On the reverse side are exceptionally clear detail maps showing the main streets and roads of Edmundston, Fredericton, Moncton, Miramichi, Campbellton, Bathurst, and the Saint John Region.  These maps have larger print and are less cluttered than you ordinarily would expect in such publications.

A comprehensive index helps you locate cities and towns.  The legend explains symbols in English and French.  (Did you know that New Brunswick is the only Canadian province that is officially bilingual?  The others are officially monolingual: for most English, for Québec, French.  The federal government is also officially bilingual.)

MapArtAlaska Yukon NWT road map
Detailed road map printed on two sides shows eastern Alaska (that portion accessible by highway from Canada), and adjacent Yukon and Northwest Territories in Canada.  On one side is the main map, which ranges from Gates of the Arctic National Park and Prudhoe Bay in the upper left corner, east to Great Slave Lake (shown in an inset in the upper right corner), and as far south as Glacier Bay and northern British Columbia.  By choosing to include only those portions of Alaska which can be reached directly by road, the publisher is able to show the area at a larger and more detailed scale than any other Alaska road map we sell.  Shaded relief is artfully employed to reveal the form of the mountains.  Point-to-point distances along Canadian highways are indicated in kilometers, along US highways in miles.  Elevations of important summits are indicated in feet when in the US and meters when in Canada (or on the border).  Also shows parks (with and without camping), other camping areas, points of interest, information centers, ski areas, ferry routes, railways, time zone boundaries, and much more.  A small inset map shows the main roads of the entire region, including those few in far western Alaska.

On the reverse side are nine inset maps.  One of these is a southern extension of the main map, showing the panhandle of Alaska at an even larger scale.  The others are all street maps of Alaskan and Canadian cities.  Anchorage is actually covered in two insets: the large shows about half of the city in detail, the smaller shows just the main roads, but of the entire city.  Most of Fairbanks, Alaska is also shown in street-by-street detail.  The gold rush towns of Dawson, Yukon Territory, and Skagway, Alaska are each shown in very great detail, with historical buildings, museums, and inns individually labeled.  The towns of Whitehorse and Yellowknife are both covered in nearly complete street maps as well.  The last of the insets is a small area detail of Juneau and Mendenhall Valley, Alaska.

As you can see in the image, this map has two covers: one side emphasizes Alaska, the other side emphasizes Yukon and the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Scale of main map, 1:2,000,000 (1 inch = about 31.6 miles); scale of Alaska panhandle inset, 1:1,600,000 (1 inch = about 25.3 miles); scale of main street maps: 1:25,000 (1 inch = about 0.4 mile).  Size: about 39½ x 27 inches.  Folded.  Paper.

MapArt Road Atlas: Canada / USA / Mexico 2007
Great atlas with MapArt’s usual high standards.  As can be expected from a Canadian publisher, the coverage of Canadian provinces is greater than you usually see in road atlases published in the USA, and gives just a little less coverage to them than to US states.  Coverage of Mexico is limited to a two-page spread.  The maps use shaded relief to show mountainous regions—something the Rand McNally's don't do.  Major and secondary roads are clearly distinguished, with point-to-point distances shown in kilometers (on Canadian maps) or miles (on the USA maps).  The maps also show parks, campgrounds, ferry routes, airports, and more.  One feature that is particularly useful is that when maps span two pages there is often a small overlap at the center, so that you can still see detail that would otherwise be lost in the binding.

There are over 170 detail maps showing the major streets of metropolitan areas of Canada and the U.S.  The map legend is written in both English and French.  An extensive detailed index for finding place names in the atlas is included.

Published by MapArt, Canada, 2007.  87 pages, about 11 x 15½ inches, saddle-stapled paperback.  New.
Item #196.  Publisher’s price: $19.95.  Your price: $18.00  (out of stock; we will not be restocking the 2007 edition, but will wait until the 2008 is available)
