| *Orders placed by 1 pm Mountain Standard Time Monday-Friday are usually shipped the same UPS business day, for about 95% of orders. If being sent by US Postal Service, orders received by 6 pm MST Sunday-Thursday are sent out by next USPS business day morning; those received between 6 pm Thursday and 11 am MST Saturday are sent out on Saturday. The 5% exceptions are: 1) When we have insufficient stock to fill your order and are awaiting your response; 2) We need extra time to restock one or more items from our suppliers, and you have told us you can wait; 3) We have some other question about your order and are awaiting your response; 4) If we have had an unusual volume of orders, more than we can package in time; and 5) If you have ordered just before or while we have gone out-of-town (the dates of the latter would be prominently posted on both this page and the How to Order page if applicable)—in which case shipment is delayed until I return.

| Mindbird Maps & Books is a fascinating little store featuring a unique selection of new and used books and maps, usually discounted. It is a store which encourages exploration and awareness of the world around and within us. As such, we stock a diversity of subjects and feature world literature, science and nature, history, travel and geography, philosophy, and more. This website focuses on maps, for which there is more online demand.
In addition to this website, Mindbird Maps sponsors and has developed three others. One, www.coestatepark.com features Henry W. Coe State Park in California, where the owner worked for many years. The second, www.nazflora.org, Northern Arizona Flora, is an annotated photographic catalog of Northern Arizona wild plants. The third, www.mojavenp.org celebrates the landscapes and life forms of Mojave National Preserve, California. A fourth is just being begun, and will feature a guide to businesses, services, and amenities in our town of Kingman, Arizona.
The Mindbird logo is the silhouette of a Common Nighthawk, a bird common but not well known, with erratic flight patterns which remind us of the way our minds flit about from subject to subject, seldom at rest. It is a bird of surprising adaptability, at home in the wilderness of the Southwest, such as the Utah Canyonlands, but able to find a niche in cities of the Northeast, such as Boston, where it nests on flat open roofs of large buildings. And this reminds us that our minds, too, are more adaptable than we are inclined to think.
