 Sawtooth Wilderness

Earthwalk Press Sawtooth Wilderness: Hiking Map and Guide
Detailed topographic map printed on two sides.  One side shows the north side of the region, the south the reverse.  This federal wilderness area includes portions of Boise National Forest and Challis National Forest, and is adjacent to Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Sawtooth National Forest.  This map also covers large portions of these adjacent areas.

The map shows roads and trails (with Forest Service numbering), campgrounds, trailheads, and ranger stations.  Water features depicted include marshes, streams, lakes and ponds.  Topographic contours show elevation, and wooded areas are indicated with a green tint.

The guide section gives a generous amount of text describing safety considerations, wilderness regulations, and minimum impact ethics.

Scale, 1:48,000 (1 inch = about 3/4 mile).  Contour interval = 40 feet.  Size: about 39 x 27 inches.  Folded.  Plastic.

Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness

Forest Service  Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness: North Half
Detailed topographic map printed on two sides, shows this federal wilderness area straddling the Idaho-Montana border southwest of Missoula.  On one side is the northwestern portion of the wilderness, on the reverse side is the northeastern section.  (For complete coverage of the wilderness area, get this map and the "South Half" map described below this.)  Elevation contours show the form of the terrain.  A green tint shows the extent of woodlands, a gray tint shows non-Forest Service lands within the National Forest boundary.

Highways of all classes are clearly distinguished, trails are easily followed, and are marked with Forest Service numbering.  Also shows gates, buildings, mines or quarries, Forest Service Campgrounds and Picnic Areas, points of interest, trailheads, lookouts, boat launches, historic sites, and cross country skiing.

Supplementary information is sparser in this publication than on most Forest Service maps, but does include details on wildland ethics, permits, special regulations, and more.  A dozen or so color photos show scenes of the region.
