Trail & Recreation Maps
Delmarva Peninsula
National Geographic / Trails Illustrated Delmarva PeninsulaExcellent new topographic and road map printed on two sides, details the peninsula shared by DELaware, MARyland, and VirginiA. Almost all of Delaware is on this peninsula, and all of the state is shown on the map. One side shows the northern, Upper Peninsula, the reverse shows the Lower Peninsula. Also includes Delaware Bay and Chesapeake Bay, and many of their subsidiary bays. The map, in fact, ranges northeast to include a piece of Pennsylvania, west to include most of Baltimore, and south to Virginia Beach.
There are numerous parks and preserves within the area covered, and this map appears to have comprehensive coverage—certainly much more than you could expect to find on your average road map. At this small scale, you won't find much help with trail details (though a few segments are depicted). Rather, think of this as your guide to finding the various wildlands in the region. Roads are numbered and classified as well as most road maps, so you can use it to guide you about the roads as well. The map employ shaded relief to show the form of the land—but there is not many hills in the region, so you won't see much surface relief. It also shows the undersea terrain, which has much more variation. A green tint shows the extent of woodland. Special symbols represent scenic byways, Chesapeake Bay Gateways, boat ramps, and points of interest. Charts list the activities available in Delaware, Marland, and Virginia parks within the region. Excellent color paintings show notable wildlife of the region, and these illustrate brief descriptions of prominent parks and reserves, such as Assateague Island National Seashore and Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. The UTM grid is included for the benefit of GPS users.
Scale, about 1:250,000 (1 inch = about 4 miles). No contours. Size: about 25½ x 37½ inches. Folded. Plastic.
