USGS State of Colorado (Shaded Relief) Wall Map
An outstanding map at a great price.  The form of the mountains are depicted with brown shading, the flat lands accented in green.  Since most of the west half of the state is mountainous and the east side is plains, the left side is predominantly brown, the right, green.  Roads are shown in red, water features in blue, and cities, towns, and smaller communities are labelled in black.  The map also shows topographic contours in brown and railroads and major land lines in black.

The image at above left shows the full map, albeit depicted at less than its true quality due to the difficulty of photographing a large map in our small shop.  The sample below shows a detail of and near Mesa Verde National Park.

Scale:  1:500,000 (1 inch = about 8 miles).  Contour interval: 500 feet.  Dimensions:  about 53 inches wide x 42 inches high.  Rolled.  Paper.
U.S. Geological Survey, 1968, revised 1980.  New.
Item #USGS-47890.  Shipping weight: 2.5 lbs.  Your price: $8.00  (Out of stock; not planning to retock)

USGS  Colorado Color Shaded Relief (National Elevation Data) Wall Map
Intricately detailed physical map of the state that is more of a work of art than a reference—for there are few place names, and no political boundaries save those of the state itself.  The map was created with computerized elevation points, and features shaded relief to show the form of the land.  It has no elevation contours, but different color tints are used to hint at the elevations.  I use the word "hint" advisedly, for the color tints are so indistinct from each other, that it would be difficult to discern the elevation level of any particularly point within three thousand feet.  Place names are limited to, by my count, eleven cities and fifteen rivers, with no others and nary a mountain named.

This is a map, then, you buy for its intrinsic beauty, or perhaps as a base map for adding on the names most relevant to your purposes.

Scale, 1:650,000 (1 inch = about 10.3 miles).  Size: about 43 x 36 inches.  Rolled.  Paper.

USGS/James McConnell  Colorado 1894 Wall Map
Reprint of historic 1894 state map originally published by James McConnell School Supplies of Denver, Colorado.  The original was apparently hand-drawn, and depicts the topography of the state in pictorial representation, and in fine detail (see sample at right).  Shows the major roads of the time, and cities and towns, rivers, lakes, and creeks, and mountain peaks are labelled.  It would be great fun to compare the map against a current road map to see how much has changed in over 110 years.

Reproduction of the map was achieved in cooperation with the Library of Congress.

Scale, not stated but about 1:500,000 (1 inch = about 8 miles).  Size: about 57 x 42 inches.  Rolled.  Paper.
Published by US Geological Survey, 2001 (original map 1894).  New.
