Alaska Geologic Maps
Helen M. Beikman (compiler), Geologic Map of Alaska
Standard geologic map printed on two sheets designed to be assembled to make one very large map measuring over 5½ feet x almost 4 feet high. Brightly contrasting colors and patterns show different ages and kinds of rock, and these are explained in an extensive legend. (See sample at right.) Also shows fault lines and volcanoes. Less prominent on the map, but discernable, are numerous waterways, glaciers, and lakes. Cultural features are also shown, albeit usually more subtly so as not to interfere with the interpretation of the geologic features; these include cities and towns and the Alaska Pipeline (shown fairly prominently). The 117 references used to compile the map are listed, and the areas each pertain to are designated in an inset map.Bathymetric contours are shown offshore at intervals of 50, 100, 200, and 400 meters, with major depths accented by color tints. Elevation contours are not shown.
Scale, 1:2,500,000 (1 inch = about 39.5 miles). Size: about 67½ x 46 inches (assembled); east section is about 43 x 46 inches, west about 27 x 46 inches. Albers Conical Equal Area Projection. Rolled. Paper, two sheets.
