A comprehensive index helps you find the places on the map. This is the largest-scale, most detailed map of the country I have seen available.

Nelles Afghanistan travel map
Excellent detailed road and reference map, printed on two sides, with one side showing most of the nation except for the northernmost and northeast sections. The reverse shows the rest of the country (the north and northeast) with a good deal of overlap between the two sides—Kabul is, for example, shown on both sides—and also includes almost all of adjacent Tajikistan and large portions of northern Pakistan. The bordering regions outside Afghanistan are depicted in the same detail as the main subject. The terrain is vividly depicted with shaded relief (see detail at right).An inset shows the main streets of the city of Kabul. The maps symbols are explained in English, German, and French.
