Regional Raised Relief Maps ![]() Hubbard Scientific Williamsport, Pennsylvania regional raised relief map This three-dimensional vinyl map shows a section of north-central Pennsylvania, with the top of the map more or less the boundary with New York state. The Susquehanna River winds across the top right corner, then reappears in the lower right corner; the West Branch of the same river flows from the lower left to the bottom right. The title city of Williamsport is along the West Branch's banks in the lower center quarter.
Maps in this series show elevation contours, with a green tint showing the extent of woodlands. Water features such as lakes, ponds, creeks, marshes, canals, and shorelines (where present) are indicated in detail. Shows roads and highways of all classes, and sometimes trails. Railroads are also shown. National, state, provincial, and county boundaries are demarcated, as are other boundaries such as parks and wildlife refuges. Other features shown in this series are mines, airstrips and airports, isolated landmark buildings, lookout towers, and more. The maps are lined with the UTM grid at 1000 meter intervals.
Few maps in this series are recently published. The manufacturer, Hubbard Scientific, uses data from the US Geological Survey, but USGS rarely updates any of the maps in this series; most use data 20 to 40 years old. You get them for the depiction of the topography, which rarely changes, not for current roads and city boundaries. In fact, many of them have an added appeal for their historical interest. See below for date of the map described on this page.
