USGS The National Atlas of the United States of America (Alaska same scale), wall map
This is a beautiful map of our nation produced by USGS. It shows cities and major towns, railroads, Interstate highways and other major roads, rivers, and lakes—just as most other US maps show. What is most unusual for a US map is that instead of shrinking Alaska to fit a smaller paper size, the giant state is shown here at the same scale.
But what I like about it most is the finely detailed shaded relief which makes even low hills readily visible. In addition, the extent of forests in the country is indicated with a green tint—something you rarely see on a US map. (Usually, the green on physical maps of the country indicate low elevations rather than woodland.) Another nice feature is that the high point of each state, no matter how flat, is shown with the elevation in italics. Other noteworthy summits are also indicated. Hawai'i and Puerto Rico are shown in insets. Less detail is shown on adjacent regions of Canada and Mexico, though the map does show rivers and lakes, major roads, major cities, and state and provincial boundaries.
In addition, it includes geographic facts about the country's rivers, lakes, coastline, and islands; its high and low elevations; and each state's area and population. There are even a number of color photographs showing scenes from the country.
Albers equal area projection.
