Hoquiam, Washington
Regional Raised Relief Maps ![]() Hubbard Scientific Hoquiam, Washington regional raised relief map This three-dimensional vinyl map shows southwestern Washington and the northwestern tip of Oregon (save a few square miles at the very mouth of the Columbia River). Parts of the Coast Ranges are at left, the Cascade Ranges (including Mount St Helens before it blew its top off in the '80s) are at right, and the lower reaches of the Columbia River at bottom left. Longview, Washington, apparently the largest city on the map, is at lower center, while the title town Hoquiam is at upper left.
Maps in this series show elevation contours, with a green tint showing the extent of woodlands. Water features such as lakes, ponds, creeks, marshes, canals, and shorelines (where present) are indicated in detail. Shows roads and highways of all classes, and sometimes trails. Railroads are also shown. National, state, provincial, and county boundaries are demarcated, as are other boundaries such as parks and wildlife refuges. Other features shown in this series are mines, airstrips and airports, isolated landmark buildings, lookout towers, and more. The maps are lined with the UTM grid at 1000 meter intervals.
Few of the maps in this series are recently published. The manufacturer, Hubbard Scientific, uses data from the US Geological Survey, but USGS rarely updates any of the maps in this series; most use data 20 to 40 years old. You get them for the depiction of the topography, which rarely changes, not for current roads and city boundaries. In fact, many of them have an added appeal for their historical interest. See below for date of the map described on this page.
