Regional Raised Relief Maps ![]() Hubbard Scientific Buffalo, New York regional raised relief map This three-dimensional vinyl map is dominated by the eastern side of Lake Erie and part of western New York, with the title city of Buffalo in the top center.
Maps in this series show elevation contours, with a green tint showing the extent of woodlands. Water features such as lakes, ponds, creeks, marshes, canals, and shorelines (where present) are indicated in detail. Shows roads and highways of all classes, and sometimes trails. Railroads are also shown. National, state, provincial, and county boundaries are demarcated, as are other boundaries such as parks and wildlife refuges. Other features shown in this series are mines, airstrips and airports, isolated landmark buildings, lookout towers, and more. The maps are lined with the UTM grid at 1000 meter intervals.
None of the maps in this series are recently published. The manufacturer, Hubbard Scientific, uses data from the US Geological Survey, but USGS apparently quit updating any of the maps in this series in the 80s; many are far older than that. You get them for the depiction of the topography, not for current roads and city boundaries. In fact, many of them have an added appeal for their historical interest. See below for date of the map described on this page.
